Koji Okumura, Ph.D., is a leading facilitator and expert on individual and team development. In his work with Fortune 500 executives worldwide, he helps clients improve individual and team effectiveness, create strategies for developing emerging talent, develop leadership vision and strategy, improve internal communication, collaboration, succession management, and CEO selection.

Experience

Koji is a seasoned clinical psychologist and executive coach with extensive experience in multicultural coaching. He received his education in Japan and the U.S. in psychology and economics, and he has been working as a clinician at a university counseling center, public and private clinics, and in humanitarian aid since 1994.

Koji has taught and led research at various universities at both the undergraduate and graduate level in Japan and the U.S. He has been heavily involved in both psychological and career counseling His experience as a professor and researcher on the topics of industrial counseling and mental health have broadened his coaching capability to encompass work/life balance issues and the special challenges researchers face. A passionate researcher, his research interests include career development, leadership development, entrepreneurship, changes of career identity among women, individual/team transformation, and business creation.

Since 2000, Koji has consulted with multinational companies, including serving as an external advisor in developing psychometrics to measure business competencies and personal styles. Along with assessment development, he provides assessment-based executive coaching and leadership training. With clients in the Middle East, West Asia, Europe, and Japan, he helps leaders uncover fundamental issues, blind spots, and bottlenecks and develop solutions for achieving steady growth of the organization.

As a coach, he seeks to understand his clients’ concerns and challenges and works with them to identify fears and mental blocks. With a focus on habits, styles, motivations, strengths, and areas of development, Koji guides clients through making cognitive and behavioral changes that impact business and human interactions. He coaches in both English and Japanese.
